Yay!  first project of summer break!  pardon my morphed face...:

I know it looks knitted but it's really tunisian crocheted, using the knit stitch.  The brown edging is single crocheted.  I kind of want to put a brown pompom on top, either hanging or sewn directly to the top.  Opinions?  I suspect that I have a pompom obsession...  Cheesy  The hat is about 1 cm thick so it'll be perfect for winter!  I only have to wait around 6 months!  yippee!!  Also, is there a name for the checkered pattern?  Thanks Kiss

thanks for the comments!

mitchell-b, tunisian knit stitch is really easy to learn.  A lot of sites might say you need a special hook but for the hat, I used a normal one with a rubberband on the end to keep stitches from sliding off.

XXRadCupcake- you should learn to crochet, it's not too hard when you have the ever-so-helpful internet!  plus, if you're stranded on an uninhabited island, you can crochet your own clothes Wink

I love that hat! great colour choices.

I don't know how to crochet either, and it is very frustrating.  I see so many amazing projects on here that I would love to try, but it just isn't going to happen.

If I am ever stranded on an uninhabited island, I am running around naked baby! Well, maybe naked with that hat!  Grin

Wow, that is very cool! I am always on the lookout for cool projects made with tunisian stitch since I love the way making stitches works but don't want to attempt an afghan...yet...great job on this one!

I too am totally upset that they are taking the servers down to fix things. Why can't they just let things stay broken? I don't care if I can't move due to lag or if quests are bugged. If I leave my room my mom may make me get a job.

thanks for all the nice comments! and to those of you who get frustrated w/ crocheting: try tunisian crocheting!  it's way easier, in my opinion, because the stitches are really easy to see.  there are tons of tutorials out there!

thanks, everyone   Kiss

I based my pattern off of a free pattern here on craftster, you'll probably find it if you search for "tunisian hat."  I just changed the stitch, made the foundation chain longer, and added sc to the bottom.  And the houndstooth pattern was inspired/stolen from my coat.

It's not worked in the round but the seam is nearly invisible.  I wove the yarn through in the pattern so it looked like a final row.  If anyone makes a tunisian hat, with either the basic or knit stitch, I can take pics and show how to make an invisible seam...  you should see the seams of earlier hats, ha Roll Eyes I learned the hard way Grin

aww that's soo cute.. i totally with i had the patience to make the pretty pattern Smiley
as for the pom pom... do one or two of each color you used in the hat and make them dangle with about an inch of like a crocheted cord.. that would look awesome Smiley

Great hat! Love the color combination!! What yarn did you use?
I think the pattern might be a gingham check rather than houndstooth though.
You could make two hanging pompoms, sort of like ear flaps?

The brown is red heart soft and the teal is caron simplysoft.  milksmom and MidoriMentality, thanks for the pompom ideas!  I'll have to play around with them.
