First hand spun yarn-Teal-ish

I spun my first yarn after buying some decent roving during the Michigan Craftster meet-up. 

I don't remember how much wool I used and didn't bother checking the yardage.  I spun it up on a homemade drop spindle using a dowel and a wooden wheel.


Yep, forgot to turn on the macro function.  You get the idea though, right?

This was also my first dyeing project, too.  I used Wilton colors.  The first try was too blue, so I tried a little more (waaaay too much) green.  The third try I used only a bit of blue.  I hung the yarn off of a bamboo skewer so that half of it was in the dye bath and the rest stayed steamy.  I let that go in the pot for 45 minutes and then dunked the rest of the skein in and left it until the water was mostly clear.  I think it turned out pretty cool considering that it is my first. 

I was super excited about it and kept showing it to the members of my family.  It was quite ridiculous.

It's much much much better than my first (which looked like intestines, or cotton candy vomit).  Congrats, and welcome to the most addictive hobby ever!

Thanks so much, you guys!  I'm so proud of it.  At first it was a little sketchy (I somehow managed to get the lumpier bits inside the skein), but I got the hang of it pretty fast.

Now, where is that roving I ordered?  Get crackin' USPS.  I've got stuff to do!

My fiber came yesterday!  I had a friend's birthday (21st OMG) so I couldn't really spin, but I definitely stuffed a handful of roving and my spindle into my bag.  I was spinning at 3 AM while various acquaintances were passed out around me.  LOL.
