Inspired by my virtual teacher Judy Belcher via DIY:http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/cr_accessories_jewelry/article/0,,hgtv_3225_4360246,00.html

Finished cane for front page  Cool

Various basic canes in turquiose and white polyclay

cut up and shaped

Make a triangle shape with your logs. (Do not be as perfect as I did here, in fact, the funkier the better at this phase)  This looks like a face and did not intend too.  I see eyes, ears, cheeks, chin..... geeze.......
Reduce this triangle cane. I push, pinch, and pull and turn, 5, 6, 7, 8.....

Measure and cut into 6 segments....

THE FUN PART, TIME TO PLAY.  Take your triangle segments and arrange them with each other, before committing to reducing, use a mirror to see finished result.  (Great tip from Judy Belcher)

see the difference, I think I will go with this one.  Finish assembly.....

Another good tip on reducing, pinch a "waist line" like so.  Pinch your way up and around with fingers, and roll on surface, and pinch press, roll.....

till smooth again like so....

I reduced it this far.....

for beads of course....

Some accidents I just couldn't smush up, so tear dropped them.  My daughter is Aquarius and loved the swirly water wave lookin one.  Smiley
Not sure what I will do with the rest of cane, another iPod case perhaps?  stay tuned....

Wow, even looking at the step by step tut - I still can't figure out how you know how to put anything in the right place and where to make round and where to make half circles. You just have the eye for this - looks GREAT!!!

I have to admit that working with poly clay has never appealed to me but lately seeing these kaleidescope canes and whatnot have really really sparked my interest.

I do believe I need to find some time to play with clay again!
Thank you for inspiration.
Your pieces are just gorgeous.

I am not embarrassed to admit that my hubby bought me my own tivo a few years ago for me to keep in my craft studio. I filled it up with over 150+  episodes of carol duvall and that segment with Judy and the kaleidescope cane is one of my "to do someday" projects!! Smiley great job!

Can I ask a semi-silly question, please.

How did you get your cane heart-shaped... like did you cut it, then shape it and then cook it?

Absolutely gorgeous. Polymer clay is one of this things on my hobby list that I keep meaning to do more of and this definitely makes me want to dig it out to have another go.

Where did you get the heart and circle metal frame bead thingies? Sorry, I don't know the technical term. Smiley

But we have flamethrowers. And what this indicates to me, it means that at some point, some person said to himself, "Gee, I sure would like to set those people on fire over there. But I'm way too far away to get the job done. If only I had something that would throw flame on them."
