i got the buttons from michaels. in their bead isle they have these bags called grandma's grab bag. and they are full of an assortment of beads and random and vintage buttons.

Buttony goodness, what a great idea! Did you draw a pattern or put the shapes together free-hand? (Love those Michael's coupons, too!)

I bought a bag of those buttons a while back and they really do include some nifty things. I especially like that there are a few themed ones thrown in for good measure.  My bag had things to do with cooking, the beach, sports, as well as the vintagey ones. There's also flat-backed pieces that can be used for scrap-booking or jewelry, too. It's not often I run across big bags of buttons at yard sales and thrift shops these days but when I do they're usually a bit pricey so this is a great alternative.

Hmm, now I'm thinking about where else this idea can be used...purses, backpack...hoodies. ..Huh Thanks for the inspiration!

Brilliant idea!  You've now solved a problem for me so give yourself a well deserved pat on the back!  I have a great Tshirt that I love - so comfortable, washes and dries quickly, color goes with everything, etc. - but it has a hole on the front, so now I know how to cover up the hole!  I wore it once with a brooch and somehow got the pinback of the brooch pinned to my bra strap underneath without knowing, and when I got to take the Tshirt off it pulled a hole in the shirt!  Bummer.  Anyway, now the problem is solved!  Thanks for the great idea.
