So finally after a month of procrastination I made this today... I found this broke down chair on the side of the road and have had this idea for a long time. Here is what it looked like before...

one of the legs was split apart so I wrapped hemplike rope around them, I still might do the front legs but just wanted to get it done for tonight

and here it is all planted. I used an octagon planter because it was the only one that was the right size and alot of moss. I didn't want to sand it or paint it. I like the warn out look it has.

I have a spot for it in our garden but it is pouring and I didn't want to go out in it.

I'm looking forward to it growing out and the vines going down the legs and up the back.
It was fun to make! Thanks for looking Grin

thanks everyone!!  the gnome and I had a good talk and he decided he wants to stay....I know he's pretty cool..he's riding a butterfly Cheesy
Also I forgot to add that the idea came from seeing different things with flowers growing out of them like old bathtubs and "flower beds" and someone even had a flowered toilet??  Wink

That's a great idea. Very inspiring. I'm very into recycled planters and have just planted our rusty old barbeque with lettuces. You were right not to paint it. The beat up look is a better background for the plants.

I will never look at a broken down chair the same way again. What a great idea. It is beautiful and truly made treasure of someone else's trash.

I REALLY like this idea! Perfect for the garden, provides a living landscape and possibly some habitat for butterflies or other buggies.

Way cute. We used to have a toilet on our front lawn with flowers planted in it. xD It was a landmark in our area; people would say 'turn left at the house with the toilet'... Yeah. That was us. xD

Anyway, great work. I like the wrapping, don't think you need to do the front legs. Just the back, it looks good!

I haven't seen everything, but i think this is my favorite. there's a bench at a shop here well, in clinton NY, in front of the shop... a wicker queen anne shaped thing, with a wire mesh where the seat used to be. last year they seeded it with layers of moss and seeds, it was so depressing to see it bare a few weeks ago. but now i think i'll just make my own, yea!

What a fabulous idea!  I love the worn, slightly battered look.  It will definitely look at home in a garden.
