Hi Quilters,

I just finished up this quilt for my grandma who taught me how to quilt and is going in for open heart surgery on Tuesday. I'm hoping this will make her happy and give her a little comfort when she's recovering. I used a free pattern from Amy Butler's website and also used her lotus fabrics. I made it the traditional way and not the "birthing Method" that she suggested. I also added a couple of borders, one cream and one orange out of kona cotton that I bought at Joanns. The quilting was done by Debbie Allen on her long arm machine (I want to try quilting by hand but haven't had the patience or time...yet). I added a striped binding also made out of Amy Butler fabric. The quilting was done in cream thread so it would blend in on the patterned fabric and stand out on the solid borders.

I'm very pleased with how it turned out. I hope grandma is proud Smiley Comments and critiques welcomed. Also thanks to the folks that answered my question about washing a quilt before giving on the questions and answers board Wink Sorry about the poorly lit photos, it's a dark day here in NY.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words and support Smiley My grandma's the strongest woman I know so I think she's going to make it through this surgery without any problems.

What a cheerful quilt.  The orange border is perfect, it frames it so nicely. It is so nice to have something home-made in the hospital to make it feel less hospitally.  You're gramma will love it.
