i soooo wanna dress as amy winehouse this year! i love her music and i think it'd be pretty easy. skinny jeans, ballet flats, super heavy eyeliner, carry around an empty bottle of jack ( the husband and i are trying to have a baby, or else that sucker would be full!) i have A LOT of hair (super thick and long) so i think i can do her famous 'do just with my own hair. doesn't have to look exactly perfect. is there a specific shirt she's usually seen wearing or you guys think any plain 'ol shirt will do? what about her tattoos? what could i use to draw them on that won't smear or smudge?

she usually wears tank tops and a suuper bright coloured bra underneath. generally white racer-back wife beaters, white spaghetti strap tops or black cotton tops. don't forget the high-heeled peep toes!

as for the tattoos, that was my problem (i'm being kat von d, but no one helped me think of ideas in this thread yet *cries* haha) and i have decided to get some good quality waterproof liquid liner (probably by gosh cosmetics) to do the tats for my hands/neck/face, and get a gel eyeliner (smashbox jet set waterproof) for my friends to help paint. both of these brands are kinda pricey but there's good quality waterproof drugstore stuff if you wanted to do it on the cheap.

You might have to do some searching, but you could buy tattoo sleeves. Might be a little extreme for Wino since she doesn't have quite so many tattoos, but people would get the idea. I would check party stores and look online a little.

I am going to a halloween ball this year so I want somthing fancy. And I am in college so I want something cute and flattering but I dont want to go super short crazy sexy. Um so I am thinking dead victorian along the lines of mrs lovett but not directly from sweeny todd. Or I might go as an edward gorey character ex and so really stark black and white make up and clothes I would make a dress out of white fabric and stitch sketchy lines in it.

Ooh! I like the idea of an Edward Gorey character!!  There are some bold black and white prints that you could use to make the dress for Alice in the first frame.  It could be a flapper-style dress so that if people don't recognise you, you could avoid confusing them too much Tongue.  I'm sure the head dress would be doable, too.  You could walk around eating grapes all night!

Hey, guys! I read through all 16 pages: awesome costume ideas!

For a while I had been thinking about being either a(n awesome) ghost or a person in black&white.
For the ghost I was thinking I could dress all in white or light shades of grey, wearing a fancy white up-do wig, white face paint, an old-timey white dress, white gloves, white stockings, and white shoes.
Or, for someone in black and white, I was taking my inspiration from the movie Pleasantville. I was thinking thinking I could wear a black or  - preferably - dark grey wig, light grey face paint, some sort of 50s style dress in more shades of grey, gloves, etc.

BUT now I don't think I'm going to go with either. I'm taking a costume design class at school and our next assignment is to do a costume that's somehow Renaissance inspired. Well, Renaissance up to 1799, in Europe, which spans a lot of styles. It doesn't have to be authentically Renaissance, just influenced by it in some way. So now I'm thinking about being either a super-amazing green and blue faerie with gauntlets and Renaissance sleeves or a Robot with antique details. I'm kind of wary about the faerie because I've been one for Halloween about 3 times (though not in recent years), but I'd really like to do it right. Being a robot is kind of generic but that's sort of the point, I guess, to take something ordinary and make it awesome. But either way the costume will only be as awesome as my imagination, skills, and time allow and I'm a bit worried, especially concerning those two last factors.
I hope I inspired someone. Anybody got any ideas for me?

Not to discourage you, but the black and white character thing is REALLY hard to pull off.  I tried it in grade 10 and it ended up a huge mess of facepaint and no one even got it!  Everyone thought I was some kind of a zombie...  Mind, I looked awesome as a dead person, but it was still a little disapointing.  Having learned from my mistakes, I would suggest you do something with long sleaves, wear gloves and grey tights, and set your makeup REALLY WELL with sheer powder.  Even then, be careful not to eat anything or it will wear off around your mouth.

I LOVE the idea of an antique robot!!  How very steampunk!  That would be a lot of fun.

My best recent costume is a jellyfish: a tutu covered in layers of purple organza trailing lace "tentacles" over a black long sleaved shirt and leggings.  With sequened shoes.

ok heres my deal with halloween this year, ive lost a lot of weight these past few months so i really want to go as something cute/sexy, but im going to a show halloween night dubd Night Of The Living Death Metal(if you couldnt tell by the name its a night of the living dead kinda theme) where people are supposed to show up as undead. I would just not dive head first into the theme but since it was my idea i may get some strange looks for that.
with that being said im sure a lot of you are thinking, you wnt to be sexy and undead be a vampire, and i would love to... but i have braces.
also the costume cant have many sticking out parts because theyll be lost to the mosh pit by thrid band. Huh
sorry for the detail overload but i really REALLY need your help!
please toss some suggestion this way!
gah!

Resident evil heroine.  The red dress and boots from 3 would be easy.

TrendyMegs, if you still haven't got any velvet rope yet, check out this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/VELOUR-6-ROYAL-BLUE-STANCHION-SECURITY-ROPE-WITH-ENDS_W0QQitemZ270280396498QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item270280396498&_trkparms=72%3A1209%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14  That's the best deal I can find.  It's a lot easier to look for "velour stanchion rope" than "velvet rope" when you're in a search engine, by the way!

Last year I dressed up as the disney cinderella in her apron dress, not her fancy ball gown. The only people who got it were little girls or parents of little girls. Everyone else asked me if I was a pilgrim, haha. This one little girl thought it was amazing and told her mom that I was THE REAL cinderella and had to take a picture with me. It was so cute.

I will probably wear the cinderella costume again this year when the staff bring their kids trick or treating in the dorms, but for parties and stuff I will probably end up going as a sexy cowgirl or something. All I'd have to buy is the hat and maybe a belt with a big buckle. I already have everything else (jean skirt, plaid blouse, suede boots). I really just want to wear my hair in pigtails... I might make a vest too if I get some time.

I also have english major week coming up where we have to dress as literary characters. I'm not sure what I'll wear for that, but I'm thinking hermione granger, elizabeth bennet, or ophelia. Holden Caulfield and Anne of Green Gables would be cool too... we'll see.

This slipped my mind until now, but one of the best couple/group costumes ever are the Yip-Yip aliens from Sesame Street. They're always a big hit:

 As seen on YouTube..

It'd be totally easy, too - just a furry sheet of material with a mouth sewn in and some eyes on top. Ah, nostalgia.
