From "Death Chair" to "Bad@$$ Rockstar Chair"

About 4 years ago my sister showed up on my doorstep with two of the most ugly, yet comfortable chairs. They got dubbed the "Death Chairs" because I would commonly sit in one and fall asleep so soundly that no one could wake me up. I bought fabric to recover them however being a busy single mom I really didn't have the time to take on such a project. So, 1 queen size fitted sheet with a couple holes compliments of the cats became the temporary cover. One chair eventually got sent to Goodwill but because of the hole in the arm and the cigarette burn in the seat cushion, this chair had to stay behind. Now I am so glad it did!

   

I got to this point in the reupholstering process when I found out that I hadn't bought enough fabric (3 years ago) to cover the whole thing. So, we hopped in the car and went for a drive to 5 (yes 5!) different places only to discover that no one has ever seen this fabric before. Ok, time to improvise...



We ended up using the leopard print fabric to cover the two lower sides and the back of the chair. That fabric was originally intended for the cushion only but I think that it really helped to tie the whole thing together.

So, keep in mind that I have only been sewing for 6 months and I have never reupholstered anything before, what do you think?

I've had the same experience (running out of fabric and having to improvise). It ends up making the piece look designer. You did a great job! The chair looks soooo comfy with that soft fabric too!

Absolutely fantastic!!  Glad you had the confidence to tackle this.....it's really very rewarding (needless to say very time consuming too).  Whenever I've finished upholstering something, I always say to myself that I'll never do that again....but....I always end up doing another one.

Congrats on such a fabulous chair and I agree with other posters about the two fabrics - they are such a great combination.
