I made a waistband from the bottom part of a knit shirt (kmart, $3)  that shrunk up and out (got short and fat, you get what you pay for).  I took a square piece of fabric (from my mom's 20 something year old stash), cut a hole in the middle and sewed the waistband to it.  Got the idea from looking at http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=148040.msg1462738#msg1462738

I'm on the short side, so I left the waistband long that way because it seemed to make me look taller and thinned out my flabby thighs. This is my first successful recon and took my 3 hours because i kept threading my machine wrong xD

ok so here's a pic:

That's really cute!  I like the long waistband on it, too.
