So.... I made a prom dress. Me and my boy decided to go totally 1950's. So i ordered a couple of vintage patterns I liked off of ebay, bought some discount fabric and jumped in.
Here's the kicker. I've never used a pattern before, I've only used a sewing machine on a few tee-shirts before, and I had no help. Oh, and I did the whole thing in a week, ALONG with making my boy's cummerbund and bow tie. I bought the shoes and petticoat and gloves at thrift stores... all in all I spent under $100 on the whole dress.
Oh yea... and I am NEVER working with vintage patterns again. I had a REALLY REALLY hard time with the sizing and everything. I am not exactly tiny, and yea. That was DIFFICULT.
The skirt is a full circle skirt, and the bodice was resized and then altered a little to show off the tattoo on my back.
Can you tell I'm kinda proud of myself?
Here's the dress. (forgive the bra strap!)
Here you can see the color of the fabrics, and my amazing hair, with my best friend.
Here you can see the whole dress, and my handsome boy.
The bowtie and cummerbund. (and boy)
My frigging amazing corsage (it had lilies in it, and there were rhinestones inside the lilies!)
My favorite pictures from the night!
PS. prom was at the Saint Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco, not on a boat, just a balcony!
Anyway... Whaddya you guys think! I honestly didn't think I was going to finish! It was a complete miracle. I did the zipper about four times, and it still wasn't great. I ended up having to pin my cummerbund on, but I think it looked pretty good!!!
I'm just raring to go on my next project!
