Flounder of Love

A friend recently began living alone by the ocean, and I wanted to make him something to keep him company.  OK, well, he's living in his car, so it had to be something that didn't take up a lot of space.  Plus I was out of polyfill.  Also, I am stranded on Martha's Vineyard, there is only one yarn store and the woman who owns it doesn't know the meaning of customer service, so I had to make do with the four skeins that someone sent me-so I used tan Super Saver and pink Sugar 'n' Cream, plus a piece of black wool thread I had left over from a needlepoint project and two buttons from the thrift shop.
He's not exactly huggable due to the flatness.  I worked the body in the round from tip to tail so he'd be a little fatter in the middle, then back and forth on the tail and the fins.
The best part is, after being featured on MySpace for just a day, two people already want to commission me to make them one!

  I love him! You should go to the other island next door and they have better customer service (or at least they used to  ).

I worked in a seafood restaurant/fish market for 8 years and have a fondness for all things oceanic. So, I may have to make a couple of these...I might try looking for some variegated yarn in a proper flounder-y color to try to mimic their speckled effect...but then I'd have to go all scientific and make the bottom white...which could be a pain...unless I stitched front and back (or top/bottom) as 2 separate pieces...hmmmm...

And, I didn't mean to imply that you flounder wasn't a proper color! They come in a wide variety of colors. I love the one you made! I just get carried away sometimes Hope I didn't offend you!

So when I picked my friend up he said, "What'd you make me, what'd you make me?!" before we even got back to my house.  When I told him it was a flounder he was a little put off, but when he saw it I don't think he was disappointed.  Especially when I explained that it was flat so as not to take up room in the car.
He said he was expecting slippers.... ?  I don't know why!  But now I have a new project, I guess!
