I've just gone through most of this thread and it's really inspiring. I've just found a book and after I've read it (that wasn't meant to happen actually, i bought it only for journalling :p) I'm going to start on it i'm so excited !!

I find that this happens with me, but after I have pulled out a bunch of the pages so I only get bits and pieces of the story.

Phizzy- After seeing your blog post, I was finally inspired to dig out my paints, papers, and other crafty stuff and get to work. It was just what I needed, and now I find that I am working in my altered journal each night and it is so relaxing. Thanks!

YES! I'm doing the Kathryn Wheel Calendar-along thing (http://thekathrynwheel.blogspot.com/2011/12/goodbye-2011.html)this year... This is my January page, which I also feel is too small.

Kate uses a 12x8 moleskine notebook, so her calendar spreads are 12x16 with like a 1.5" square for each day. I'm also hunting for a bigger book, but thought about just buying 12x16 watercolor paper and then binding it all into a book with a coptic stitch at the end of the year.

I was just going back through the pages and I think that I might use a layout like this for our family calendar once we get to Montana. I love the idea of having one calendar on a larger page.

For some reason I saw "spiral bound" instead of "coptic stitch," and even though I realized I read it wrong, I like the idea of it being spiral bound. That will make it easier to switch from one month to the next.

If I could just find a used bind-it-all/zutter type thing for cheap...

I got my Bind-it-all at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon, so instead of $60 it was under $40. Still a little pricey, but it's darn useful to have! I haven't done anything in my art journal, but I've been keeping up with my calendar journaling! KK I really like the last page with the mosaic-looking frame. It looks like a mosaic dove/night sky. And the border is lovely, too.

I love both of those, KK! I'm getting back into the swing of things again too, just about I'm going on a big trip soon and I've treated myself to a book from here for my travels. Lots of work coming to prepare it before I go!

Nooo- Thanks! I currently live about 1 1/2 hours from any type of craft store, so it makes it easy to "save" money, but I might have to keep the coupon in mind next time we make a trip to "the city."

Natasjadreams- Getting creative can feel so good. If you are using art journaling as a form of therapy, you might want to check out "The Art Journal Workshop" by Traci Bunkers. It feels so good to be creating again 


This spread was inspired by Nooo ( Here is the pinned page ) I used sticker paper for all of the squares and rectangles. I played around with sharpies, colored pencils, and crayons when we were driving and watercolors once we got to the hotel. I may do more with this page, I'm not sure yet.


This spread is from our recent trip to Ames/Des Moines, Iowa for the weekend. I glued most of the receipts from the weekend to the page, then painted the entire thing with watered down acrylics. I have more plans for this page, but so far I love the little hand drawn details my 6yo daughter and I have added.



And this one was inspired by a few different pages in the latest Art Journaling magazine.

Yes, I do occasionally come up with a spread on my own, but it's been a while and I am a bit rusty, so thanks everyone for the inspiration!

I have a few questions for those that are still following.

When prepping an altered journal, what do you use to stick your pages together?

When using watercolors, does it leave a chalky residue or am I just using cheap watercolors?

How do you keep your pages from sticking together?
