I love it Phizzy - extending the drawing off it is very effective!

Heres my latest then, very simple - Im addicted to this at the moment - I think its procrastination!! This is the page before the contents page hence no writing on it

Thanks - Just very simple really but I liked it.

I think I need to do a load of backgrounds then when I am inspired I can just pick one to work on without having to wait for it to dry. But although I like the painted backgrounds I dont know if I want them all to be painted. Yours are either painted or plain with some collage and painting on afterwards arnt they?

Yeah, I tend to do a few backgrounds in advance and then pick the one that's most suited. I think that sometimes it is nice to leave a lot of the page showing as a contrast.

I quite like using white acrylic watered down to blank out some of the writing a little too. You can still see the writing, but you have the painted background style.

Gemcraft I love the way you've done the long wispy bits on that butterfly and the way you use colour!

Here's my first effort! I've accidentally shyed away from using much colour, Huh I've been in the garden all weekend and as I've been gardening I've been building up the page in my head, I've realised that i think more in words than images! I was reminded of a song we used to sing at school so they ended up on the page too! my lawn is a mass of daisies and buttercups, I was planning to try and put down some yellow and white crayon and then put over a green wash but I realised the words would all show through more than i had planned so I used white acrylic to hide the text (before i read Phizzy's tip on watering it down Cheesy) .. insult was added to injury when the pen i had used bled when i added some watercolour - guess i should either do the paint first or try and find a waterproof pen Smiley

Phizzy - thanks for the advice, I have a background done like that but nothing on it yet.

Ruby - I LOVE it! I made myself read your writing about it before I looked at the picture so I was really intrigued by what it would look like but I absolutely love it.
Your handwriting is beautiful (mine is atrocious) and I love the snails and the daisy.
What are the triangles and circles done in?

That looks great! I love the way you have the text in the box and the snails crawling around it, and the way the daisy breaks it up.

Like you say, some pens are waterproof, some are not. It can lead to some interesting sketching though if you draw with the ink then use a wet brush to shade around your drawing picking up the ink. Sometimes the ink just turns grey, but sometimes it goes brown or blue! Cheesy

....What are the triangles and circles done in?

The way the 'Phizzy inspired' triangles turned out is probably the only bit i like about the page!! lol they were very simple to make, I used coloured pencils and coloured random stripes on a strip of paper and then cut it into triangles! and i used a hole punch on the left overs to form the circles!

Your journals look great!

Phizzy: As always, I adore your watercolour work. Your pages are always so inspirational.
Gem: Your collaging is wonderful. I love the way you put things together.
Ruby: I'm ultra jealous of your stylish handwritting. I like the way you framed the page and worked your main theme into the center.

I just picked up a book I won't feel the least bit bad about painting in this weekend at a Garage Sale (I love those) and am going to jump into this thread as soon as I get some stuff done. Cheesy

Thank you! Your book sounds great DanniQuee, (it's quite hard making that first mark in a perfectly good book isn't it?) I can't wait to see what you come up with! Smiley
