Painted office supply stand from ikea

Sooo, my desk at work (like every other space I rule over) is a mess. But! It's a little less messy now that I got my pencil stand sort-of-finished

I started out with this IKEA stand, sanded the outside a bit, and painted it with acrylics I got on sale the other week

My paint job (with half The Killing Tree from threadless.com on each side):





I actually painted over the three white dots "between" the birds, with black, before I went to work, but that was after I took the pic... d'oh! (see digital design below to see which dots I mean..)
So I painted them over with MSPaint now, it's not great, but it's more close to the real deal




I was gonna make a painted mosaic wave pattern in blue and teal on the front, but I wanted to get it to the office already, and I didn't feel like designing the wave pattern...

The ravens (well.. approximately ravens) I drew on a paper, traced the drawing, and then abused the trace with some carbon paper on the pencil stand, to get the outlines. My digital design wasn't exactly the same, but I'm pleased with how it turned out. It had a different feel once on the stand than it did when I made the digital rough sketch, so it got to be this way instead.

Excellent work on making something boring personal! I should pick up one of these next time I am at Ikea and re-do it..need something to put bills/mail in.

Thanks I try to tell people that the more boring plain wood things are really a blank canvas, you have to buy it and you have to MAKE it
