Soooo, this is a piece that went into my entrance portfolio for art school. The title pretty much says it all; it's a retro inspired suit made with spandex.

Pictures!

Thanks to my friend Caitlin for taking these :]

I'll lay it out in steps, I'm not to great at explaining things.

1. Cut one of the front and back. Bust cups are not attached yet.

2. Take the pattern for the front, and cut another one, but straight across this time, no leg holes. Be sure to put enough seam allowance on the bottom of this piece so that you can put elastic on it.

3. Ok, this might get tricky, but this is the way I did it. I cut the modesty panel just long enough so that when I sewed up the side seams, I would have enough fabric on the leg holes to put in the elastic. So, but the modesty panel on top of the front and sew it to the back. After you put elastic on the leg holes, this is how the side will look.

4. Attach bust cups and back elastic and you're done!

And this concludes my first tut! Haha.

*ps. don't use for commercial purposes. Thanks! :]*

That's a lovely swimsuit! Crazy though, it's exactly the sort I've been planning on making! I love that style but they're impossible to find in the shops. I have the fabric and elastic all ready! did you use a pattern or draft it yourself?

mollteaser: it was a combination of a vintage vintage pattern and some finagling of my own. The halter and back are from the pattern, but i made the "modesty panel" and added more coverage to the back. Hope this helps!

OMG This is exactly what I've been dreaming of too! Any chance you could draw up a simple tute or diagram of the shapes the pieces are in. I never really use patterns and can sum up things quickly just by the shapes of the pieces...I'm a little lost on the modesty panel though.

I NEED one of these. I am a plus size woman with lots of booty and this style is so flattering and sexy. Grin
