Thanks everybody! I totally fell in love with this pattern, it is from Interweave Crochet Spring 2006. No it didn't take me quite that long, I had to wait for the right baby to come along! The magazine is hard to come by, but they offer the pattern for sale.

I know it's a bit pricey for a single pattern, sorry!

I did find that it went faster once I switched from just trying to make all the squares to making all the squares for each section and building it as I went. It provided nice little moments of triumph along the way to keep me going - just making square after square feels like less progress to me.

I totally loved the yarn, and it comes in a TON of colors - I had a great time picking!

I've never seen a blanket like that - it's beautiful!  The bold colours are fabulous - I got tired of pastel baby stuff when I had my babies.

Ah! Congrats on actually finishing it!  I've been about 1/3 of the way through this pattern for a year or so (granted, I haven't really worked on it for about 8 months...)... I picked different colours, too, as the original is a little too pink for me (and the nephew it was intended for.  Well, for his father anyway).
It's encouraging to see it done.. Hmm, maybe i'll have to dig it out again.

I remember eying that pattern up when I first got that issue of Interweave...now that I'm going to be an aunt maybe I'll dig the pattern up and give it a go!

That is just beautiful and happy. It is destined to be an heirloom.

I saw the pattern said "easy." Is it really easy? Something this gorgeous could make me learn to crochet.

WOW, you did such an amazing job! I love it. I love  the randomness of the pattern. I also LOVE that it is not the typical pastel baby blanket, although I do like them ok, just like something different Smiley and it looks so soft! Thanks for the link to the pattern also, I would love to get it, um, but I need to really learn to crochet better than basic chain stitch. anyways, great job!

I have paint all over my fingers and fabric all over the floor. Yeah it was a good day!
