Hi, just found out about ATCs today (and Craftster too btw)and love the concept, but just wondering if artists would generally be happy to do overseas trades. Like would it put most people off paying for international postage? or are there other reasons? Hopefully I can trade with lots of people on this board so that I can have my own collection of ATCs

I don't have a problem with it. In fact, my first 2 ATC trades from Craftster went to Israel and Sweden. Unless you have a particularly heavy ATC it's only about a $1 or so to mail it out. Sometimes it takes awhile to get there and then I worry that maybe it got lost. Hasn't happened yet though.

In fact the only time I've had something get lost in the mail was to someone here in the US.

Most swap sign-up forms have a question asking the participants if they are willing to swap overseas. Most swappers I have dealt with are ok with it, but if they can't afford it financially they just indicate it on the form. For private swaps, like ATC one on one swaps, if you ask the person you want to swap with and they say no- don't take it as a personal thing- sometimes it's strictly financial!

I would definitely trade internationally, the idea is to have a wide collection of art from all around is it not?
I happen to know (I used to work in a Post Office) that to send a packet/envelope from here (UK) to anywhere outside of Europe costs 81p (under $2) if it weighs less than 40 grams, which I imagine an ATC would...

And on an almost silly, dreamer level, I would love to send my art overseas, it would be like having a little part of me in other countries.

Most of the cards I have traded have been international.  I have very few from my own country.  I have never had a card go missing.  I would start with the swaps here on craftster.

I live in Cyprus- there's only two other ATC artists on the island and ALL of my trades have been International- if I can't afford the postage, I don't trade! Simple as!
I love receiving cards in the post- best reason to have the mail IMHO Smiley

Postage is usually not much for an ATC, it is nice to trade with people, and it usually is just the cost of a normal international letter.
All my trades have been international too.
