what's the retail atmosphere of the town like?  lots of small shops or big boxes?

are you an outdoorsy type?  can you tell me about the accessibility of national parkland, even more importantly  national forestland (since parks don't typically let dogs come in)?

thanks a million!

I'm doing a little research for a non-craftsterated friend.  She's 25 and an advanced beginner at knitting, and also lives in Ukiah.  Are there any knitting or craft groups in the town or nearby that she could attend?  She's really hoping to make some new friends in the area and she's concerned since apparently Ukiah is pretty far from other cities in the general area (I dunno myself as I've never been to Ukiah, only been to CA twice--but terribly jealous of those who live out there!!)

[url][http://www.heidisyarnhaven.com//url] this is a wonderful store that has classes dont know of knitting groups.  also if she spins or wants to spin theres a lady that attends farmers market sells wool gorgeous mohair and other supplies.

Hey all, I am origionally from Ventura, CA (between Santa Barbara and LA) but two years ago I moved to Texas.  And now I am thinking of moving to Merced, CA with my cousin.  Can you tell me what Merced or any surrounding cities are like?

Anyone from the Chico or Redding area, do you know of any great yarn shops?  Walmart is sadly lacking.  I've tried Joanns and Micheals, but I think a smaller shop might be better.  I'm a newbie, but I'm picky about my yarn.

There's a cute place called Heartstrings on the Esplanade in Chico. However, I've only been in there once, so I can't really give you any more info than where it's at. Hope it helps, though! Wink
