I moved to Dallas last year from San Francisco last year & it is HOT.  Not just hot but the kind of humid where you want your clothes to breath.  So, Hancocks was having a great sale today & I got several patterns & fabrics to make some sundresses, which I am seriously lacking.

I am starting with this one:

http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5654.htm?search=5654&page=1

But I also got this one:

http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5659.htm?tab=dresses&page=1

And this one:

http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5655.htm?tab=dresses&page=1

And this one:

http://www.butterick.com/item/B5038.htm

Anyone want to join along?

Me! Me! I've made one already, just a pillowcase type, but I've got some cool patterns too! I might make one tonight!

I do!  I like the McCall's with the bow thing in the front the most though....  AND I live in Dallas.  Thanks goodness it finally rained to cool it off here!

I think I'm in.  I'll be doing the plus sized sundress.

Of course, I've never sewn anything with a pattern before, so we will see how it goes...

i am in love with that butterick pattern. only it's winter in Aus. It might make a nice winter tunic if i made it in a darker heavier fabric. i think i'm in..... only hope i can get that pattern here....

I'm in  Wink

I have got the pattern printed & cut out for the 2005 Watanabe dress (on showstudio website).  I am in Aus too, but at least that gives me 3 months to make sure it is finished for when it does start to warm up.

off to go and cut the fabric for the skirt part - have not decided what to use for the top part

All right!  I have 4 in progress - just need to add the zipper, top facing, and hem.  Same pattern, just different variations & fabrics.  How's everyone else doing?

Summer came early here - can't wait to have these done!

Only working on the one dress - was going to make the top part out of a green slk fabric, but as I was a bit unsure how the pattern pieces fit together & it would fit.

Either I managed to print it on a slightly smaller scale, put it together incorrectly (but I'm sure I have not), or the models they use are thinner than a rake  - either way I have had to add a 2 panels to the back (which still fits nicely in with the design).

That is the part I am up to  - the zip & straps need to be added, a couple of minor finishing bits, and I think it will be done.  Grin

I have another pattern (for a dress) which I think I will work on before I have another go at this dress which I will alter differently to fit.

Is it too late to join? I saw the McCall's M5655 and fell in love (helps that they have a really similar one at Talbot's for like $200 to push me over the edge!). I have a wedding to go to in May (my best bud's) and this would be perfect!

I picked up the fabric and the pattern today but I lent my sewing machine to my best bud to make her trousseau. McCall's M5655 view C (with the bow like the girl on the front), mint green linen.

should I wash my linen? I'll have this dress drycleaned. I probably should. How should I treat the edges so they won't fray? zig-zag, fray check, something else? I usually work with knits for my kids that don't fray as easily.

I always wash everything before i make anything.
I always overlock (serge) the edges. So i am not sure, zigzag may work also.

I don't have a serger (it's on my list but it's not high right now with the kitchen renovations brought on by buying an over range microwave that ended up being too heavy for our 30+ year old now-quite-obviously-homemade mdf cabinets) but i think i'll zigzag about 1/4 inch in before washing. sigh... I hate ironing... :-(

I've got room in my freezer right now so I'll pull a trick out of my Grandma's bag and not dry it all the way, ball it up and stick it in the freezer. Apparently, it's easy to iron things when they are frozen... I've done it with table cloths (where did Grandma keep her table linens? the freezer, of course! The whole point of their deep freeze was to store clean but unironed table linens and our slushee cups)

I think I'll join in as well, I've been meaning to make a new dress.
With perfect timing, I'm moving in two weeks, so I'll probably start two and a half weeks from now.

I'm thinking a black dress with white boob parts.

I washed but haven't ironed or cut my linen yet. We now have about 1/2 of our kitchen put back together (the usable part - the base cabinets and tall pantry cabinets). On a side note, I bought the slush mugs for my kids for Easter and I bought an extra one for me! I found them at perpetualkid.com (well, nostalgic win found them at perpetual kid and I followed a link).

How are you guys doing?

nearly completed - just have hem and top stitch left plus I have to erase my marks (hot pink water sol pen on green linen stands out!)

will be back to post pictures when I find my camera cord.

I think I will join this Smiley  Making a sundress or 5 is on my list for the 50 projects craftalong...not to mention I live in FL where it is pretty much ETERNAL SUMMER...and of course is now in the 90s almost everyday  Undecided

Here is something I made recently, is basically a LONG version of the smock top pattern from Sew Simple magazine several editions ago

Yeah, I know the stripes don't meet in the back, but I kinda like the look of it.  I have plans to make Simplicity 2642 for the long maxi dress, also would like to make a short version of it too...not sure if this link will work or not...

http://www.simplicity.com/dv1_v4.cfm?design=2642

I have several patterns from my mother I have plans to make, and I LOVE the 2 McCalls patterns posted in the initial reply on here, 5654 and 5659 Smiley

I'm just now starting a sundress - first personal sewing project in months!  My previous attempts all failed and I gave up during a period of busyness with other of life's little interruptions.   Cry  Maybe this time I'll actually finish a project and have something to show....
