I have always wanted to make a friendship album quilt, and this is my first try at organizing. I would like to host a series of swaps for quilt blocks with the intent of having enough blocks to do this in six months or so. All blocks will be 6" size,  (really 6 1/2" when block is done, before being sewn into quilt).

Our first block is called Friendship Star, and is easy enough for anyone to make. The link to the pattern is below. Remember, we are making and swapping the 6" size.

Details of swap:


The background fabric will be plain white quilter's cotton fabric, not muslin.
The focus fabric can be any fabric of your choice.
Fabric must be pre-washed 100 % cotton.
You will make sets of six blocks. Each set may have all the same focus fabric, or each block may be different.
You may trade 1-3 sets of blocks. Each set traded will be with a different person. New swappers may trade only one set of blocks.
Please sign your blocks, unless requested not to do so by your partner.
Blocks will be put into ziplock bags for mailing, with maker of blocks clearly labled on bag. One set of six blocks per bag.
Blocks can be machine or hand pieced, as long as it is your best work.
Please measure accurately, to make sure blocks are the correct size.
Delivery confirmation required.
If for any reason you mail late, you must notify organizer and partner ASAP. Late mailing will be severely frowned upon. If you have a history of mailing late or not sending, plase don't join us.

Let me make sure I am understanding this properly.

Everyone in this swap is making 6-6" friendship star blocks and signing them. Then we are sending them to one partner?
So I would (for example) send 1boy1girl1kitty2 6 signed friendship star squares and she would be sending me 6 signed friendship squares?

Usually in swaps I've done like this we send one square to each participant, so at the end we each have 1 square from each participant.
Am I misunderstanding?

that is how i understand it. i think it is designed this way so that we will have enough squares to make something  if there a)aren't many to sign up and b)if we decide not to do this swap next month for square 2 other reasons might be a) less stress not worrying to have to make MANY squares unless you want to, b) keep shipping down as say 24 individual envelopes would be more expensive to ship than 2-3 packages of 6 squares each

but if the swap were go the other way i'd still be in

YES, 1boy1girl1kitty2, you have it right. There is a method to my madness. We are trying to cut down on postage, and have less stress. There will be a series of swaps, and people will have the chance to swap with different partners. You have the option of having only one or even none of your blocks signed. There will be many possible ways to use these blocks. We will discuss options later. The aim right now is to accumulate blocks.

I'd love to do this one, but unfortunately I will be at a summer camp with limited internet and time off, so I can't.  If there is another round of something like this though, in the future, I'd love to participate!

Sent in my info. One of this year's craft goals was to work on my quilting skills. Since it's nearing the end of May and I haven't go to work on that yet, these swaps seem like the best way to make me do it.

It's working on the crochet side. The CAL has me halfway done with an afghan now.
