Handspun Bridesmaid shawl/scarves.. One down, 5 to go..

So my goal has been to spin yarn and crochet shawls/scarves for my bridesmaids as gifts to them for being in my wedding and supporting bryan and I..  So I've been spinning and stashing yarn.. and now that the wedding is in 2 1/2 months.. I figured I better pull myself off my wheel and get started..

So I learned to knit last week.. I'm THRILLED because now I can do both for my gifts..    I also learned that you use less yarn with knitting than crocheting, which is great!! 

So I present.. my first knit project EVER..

I started with a beautiful batt of merino, bamboo, alpaca, mohair, wool neps, sequins and loads of sparkles


Spun it into 114 yards (I added some novelty yarn snippets as I spun for extra texture). 


It's 52 inches long, 6 inches wide..  I knit and dropstitched on size 17 needles..  Instead of fringing the ends, I sewed on pua shell circle beads.  The irridecence of the beads matches perfectly with the sparklies in the scarf..

that is really pretty. its so thoughtful that you are making your bridesmaids something that takes so much time. i know its a pretty simple to make item, but it still takes time and skill, and i'm sure they will appreciate it

This is one of the best hand-made wedding ideas I've heard of yet!  Not only because they are thoughtful and gorgeous, but I believe handspun yarn should always be a part of every occasion

Thanks for the kind words everyone!!  I'm thrilled with how the project turned out!!  I've just started the second one.. with another Loop batt (this one in blue)  I think everyone is going to be so happy with their gifts!  Knitting is really addicting!!
