@ graverobbergirl (cute name btw)
I saw a tutorial on making a corset out of a pair of jeans somewhere around here, must be somewhere in the recon section. Looked fairly easy, using the shape of the cut open jeans.

yup that could have been me actually, as ive a post about making an imitation corseted dress!!:) heres a link to the thread and tute!

lucifers angel-That is a supercute jeandress! I could never make it work like you do though...it looks fabulous on you! And the way you put it together is so inventive.

I've lost quite a bit of the fabric putting it through washings between bleach and dyeing stages...oh well. I've also already constructed a test corset (which was a good idea because it's a little too large) using the corset pattern generator (located here, if you haven't heard of it http://www.elizabethancostume.net/custompat/index.html).

So here's a piece of the denim post-tiedye and pre-second round of bleaching. My camera has issues with color accuracy, and really failed to capture the color staining the denim.

Post-round 2 of bleaching (there is more color on them than in this pic as well):

I know what you're thinking...you're thinking "why is she bleaching out jeans like it's the 80s or early 90s? It looked wrong then, and it most certainly looks wrong now!"

Well, I'll let you in on my scheme. This is going to be part of an outfit using elements of early 90s/"grunge" fashion. I know, "grunge" by definition cannot be comprised of a planned outfit, but with raggy, bleached and stained denim, flannel, and (if I can get my hands on some) old school longjohn tops  (I only have old school bottoms and new fangled, non-waffled, sleek, black, fashionable sets) we may just have the nostalgic throwback I'm aiming for (only with washed hair and clean clothes).

I never said I followed rules of taste :-)

Okay, my project is done. It ended up as much more than just a recon, though.

So I posted it here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=252978.0

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/graverobbergirl/reversablecorset16.jpg

It's a reversable corset top, one side made from the denim jeans I dissected and tortured... I had started out with grunge in mind but ended up with sort of newer punk style...

Anyone else made any progress?

it's lovely!
can you show us some pictures of the reverse side as well?

I have a ton of old jeans that are dying to be re-made. I like the suggestion of a pinafore. Maybe more of a jumper-type thing for me.

Everything else looks really great!
