Okay, sorry for the terrible title, but I really don't know how to describe my living room "decor" Wink  I have a vintage Guinness poster (toucan), and Jimi Hendrix with all the Hindu-looking deities and bright colors, and two slightly tattered vintage maps . . . the overall color scheme is dark brown and light blue, with pale gold-beige accents . . . sorry no pics, maybe I'll use tax rebate to get a digicam Smiley  Anyway, I'm trying to figure out a way to tie all these random elements together . . . I want something a little bohemian, a little chic, a little hippie, but I can't think exactly what to do to make it all go "Wow."  Any ideas would be great!!!  Thanks!

For some reason, I'm seeing lots of plants - fake or real, but greenery.

Are you looking for ideas re painting? Furnishing? Accessories?

Seems like a neutral background would help your maps and posters pop.

Can't paint . . . it's an apartment, the walls unfortunately are FUGLY dingy off-white Sad  I guess mostly I'm looking for ideas on accessories, creative furniture ideas for a smallish space, ideas to tie all these random elements together, maybe give the place some ethnic/ world-art kinda flair . . .

These things are much easier with pictures, unfortunately.   Sad

What kind of furniture do you have?  How much space is there?  How is the room used (ie, just for watching tv; doing crafts; having lots of people over)?

To tie pictures together you can put them in similar frames.  If you need to do it on the cheap, knock together some wood frames and decorate them to taste--use ethnic stores and art as inspiration.  Off the top of my head, dark wood or bright colours with some sort of geometric or organic pattern would go well.

If there are windows, make up some colourful curtains.  Sari fabric is beautiful and definitely ethnic.  You can even hang saris or curtains on the walls to cover up some of the blah.

A great way to tie your posters into the rest of the room would be to use one (ideally a vintage map) under glass as a coffee table, but it depends if you have enough room.

Mirrors brighten up small rooms.  Paint or slipcover mismatched furniture to look more "together".  Buy or make a folding screen with a tribal pattern and use it to cover up a wall or partition off a corner full of junk.

Hopefully I've given you some ideas to work from!
