I just bought the $4.95 pattern and plan on starting in the next few weeks.  Is anyone out there interested in knitting this at the same time as me?  It will be my first "pieced" knitting project.  I plan on giving it to a friend for her baby girl due in April.  Of course, I just had a baby girl myself so I may have to make two if it turns out well.  I was unable to find a cotton/microfiber blend in the store and was too impatient for an online order, so I am substituting a sport-weight acrylic.  I'm not a big acrylic fan, but this has a smooth, soft strand and will make it machine washable for a baby...big plus!  I chose "Luster Sheen" in Natural by Red Heart.

That is so cute....I'd love to make it.  Both my sister and sister-in-law are pregnant, but neither of them are planning on finding out the sex of the little ones, so I am afraid they will both end up with boys.  I'd love to see the finished dress in case one actually has a boy (we're all keeping our fingers crossed for a girl after the last 4 babies have been boys.)

the skills needed are listed as: invisible cast-on, knit two together, vertical decrease, ssk, 3 needle bind off, picking up stitches, yarn overs, slipping stitches.

I haven't done all of these yet, myself.  If you're confident enough, though, a resource book will teach you or there are a few online resources that even have video clips of someone doing the particular task.

I still haven't started yet, but plan to sometime this month.  When I finally get around to it, maybe I'll figure out how to post photos.  Anyway, if anyone is still interested, you can still knit-along with me since I haven't begun.
