Hi! This is my first clothing post, more of a modification on an existing t shirt but here goes. My boyfriend's dad had to go in for heart surgery last week. In the weeks leading up to it he told us that he was going to have a zipper installed. So. Needless to say, we got to work.

installation of the zipper

and now he can show off his repaired ticker! He actually ticks too. Until his heart repaires the surgical cuts, we'll be able to hear it beat from a couple feet away.

All done in an afternoon with sharpies and fabric markers, a t shirt, a zipper and needle and thread. Comments welcome! thanks for looking.

That's so cool! It was lovely of you to do it for him too...

I imagine you could make some cool toddler clothes like this too, with fun prints behind the zippers. I'll have to acquire a toddler to make clothes for!

I love the idea and imagery, and if I was the recipient, I would be thrilled and honored.  Too cool.

I'm totally picturing doing a blue swatch with the Superman emblem on it behind the zipper... like busting out of your street clothes kind of thing.  That would be very cute on a kids shirt.

That is REALLY cool! Great idea... My sister was too little for that sort of thing when she had heart surgery, but it's still a way cool thing I'll keep in mind. Heh. Good job!

thankyou everyone for all your positive replies! My boyfriend's dad loved it. We gave it to him a couple days after he got out of the hospital. He changed right into it and wore it the rest of the night Smiley He's doing really well. Still ticking though.
I think this sort of thing would definitely work for kid's clothes. It was easy over all. The tricky part was folding and stitching the heart in place so it would lie flat when zipped but open up easily when opened. But seriously, it took me like 10 minutes to place and pin and another 10 to stitch.
If anyone comes up with variations on this I'd love to see them. I'd do more but I'm on the awful job hunt(just moved) and I lack the time to do a lot of crafties. I'm glad you all enjoyed it!  Smiley
