I have the exact same problem- never had a headboard, and hate the look.  This is absolutely brilliant, and exactly what I was looking for.  Only I couldn't figure out how to make it.  Thank you so much for posting!  I am definitely going to try this!!!

I've been a fan of alittlehut (Patricia's avatar) for a long time, and I think you did a tremendous job with her idea. (I made a piece from that same idea... it's on Craftster somewhere) Your work shows patience, creativity, and an eye for balance.
