Hi All!  I'm looking into getting a dressform.  From the sizes posted I may need a Petite size for the bust, but I'm concerned about the Neck to Waist sizes.  Anyways... I've heard mixed reviews about some of them, so I guess my question is... Do you own a dressform? If so, what brand/type, and how do you like it?  And how do the measurements work out for you?

I have a Lady Valet.  It was about 120 I think ($240) and is very good quality, easy to pin stuff to and has a very sturdy wooden stand.  The measurements are ok apart from the shoulders, as mine are wider than the dress form, but I'm oddly shaped and never going to find anything that's exactly right.

I'm petite and plan to make my own dress form using the duct tape method.

You could look at a form suitable for a child, and pad it out to the needed shape and measurements, though.

Here are some ideas on how to make your own:

I might have a go at making one during the summer.  I love my dress form but it would be nice to have one where the shoulders and back are completely right.  I might also make one for my other half for if I want to make him shirts etc, but I'm not sure I could get him to be still for long enough... unless I stick an Xbox controller in his hand.

I tried to make my own and it was a little unsuccessful, but I've seen some that look really good. Just make sure you have a good partner helping you.

There's some jersey forms and dress forms (like on Project Runway) here: http://www.studiorox.com/Jerseyform/Femalejersey-1.html

Or if you want something adjustable: http://www.amazon.com/Singer-DF151-Adjustable-Dress-Medium/dp/B000H6KZYS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1211137387&sr=8-1

Although those have some trouble with pinning because when you "adjust", there's some huge cracks in it... :/

But anyway, I would suggest the first one. Cheap and professional looking. Cheesy
