This is great. But I admit Im a bit terrified about swapping now. Having a bunch of people I dont know have access to my address is freaky.

I'm not sure I fully understand your concern. Smiley  How would Leah, myself or the rest of the people at NameMedia have access to your mailing address from swapping?

is there the assumption that the people running the site can read all PMs?  and if that is the assumption, what is the actual truth?

I wouldn't worry about this. You might share your address with someone over PM but (a) you're not officially providing it to Craftster/NameMedia and (b) if we did officially collect mailing addresses (which we don't) we wouldn't by law be able to do anything with them unless we stated up front what would happen with your mailing address at the time that you shared it.

Technically speaking whoever "hold the keys" to any system can access private information if they want do. So, like, if you have a Yahoo email account, Yahoo could read all your emails. But they don't of course.

And there would be no reason for anyone here to do so either.

The only situation I can possibly see is if there was some sort of lawsuit and a certain PM exchange was subpoenaed or something.

I do want to point out that if I get word that someone is sending really problematic PMs (like our lovely naked Asian man from a while back!) I will sometimes run a report to see how many other people that PM has been sent to and will sometimes delete such a PM from the system.

But otherwise I have no reason to ever look at the PMs stored in Craftster's database and no one here would either. It would be a violation of people's privacy and there would be nothing to gain.

I don't think I'd want to know what goes on in some of your PM inboxes. Cheesy

To answer the questions about swap angeling... I can't imagine they'd ever make a decision to do away with the swap angeling system. The whole purpose is to make the swap process work if someone flakes. It wouldn't be worth it to them to do away with this just to make a few extra bucks.

To those who were worried that they'd forget about the non-U.S. participants on Craftster... I can tell you that they carefully looked at Craftster's traffic stats and they are totally aware that 70% are U.S. and 30% are non-U.S. This is important information for someone in their position to know. So, yep, they are aware of this.
