yes, i know these have been done nearly to death but damnit they're so cool and they're a friggin pain in the ass to make. i probably could have made a painting or something in that amount of time...
so my partner remembers at like 3pm yesterday that he has a potluck today at work to bake for. long story short, we went from having no plans, to having passes to a movie premier, a dinner party to go to, a softball game to play, and potluck baking to do. we split ways at 9pm - him to the softball game, and I back home to bake. luckily a good friend offered to give me a hand (even so we were still up until 2am making these things).
The original project was posted by phwarfcat (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=244232.0). I followed the recipe she posted, but trippled the yeild. even so, we only ended up with enough to make about 27 (should have yeilded 36) but that may be because the first dozen were a little larger. i'm thinking that it would probably be easier to put each of the 6 dough colours in pastry bags and pipe it into the muffin tins - spooning it and trying to carefully spread it around was a big job. i'm also thinking i'd like to quadruple the recipe and use twice as much per cupcake, so that the coloured layers would be a bit more defined.
we then made a dangerously wonderful cream cheese icing and piped little clouds onto each cupcake (icing recipe was my friends).
finally, cause my boyfriend is a beekeeper, we did a project out of this months Martha Stewart Living magazine (which has all sorts of articles on bees! yay!) and made little bees out of marzipan and almond slices to put on each. the bees were simple in concept but time consuming to make, and the almond slices were tricky to get to stay. in the end, i used a knife to cut a slit for each slice and used a tiny dab of the cream cheese icing to help hold them in there.

of course, he rode his bike to work today so i have little hope that they'll have survived the trip intact, but what can you do. at least i have a perfect one for myself ^_^

I forgot to note that these are, without question, the tastiest cupcakes i've ever had. The Nigella Lawson recipe is most excellent (they should be with all the butter and sugar in them!). I feel like crap today though... a couple of these at 2am right before bed, plus generous and repeated samplings of icing over a 4 hour period = unhappy digestion Wink

Cute! Yay for gay pride (and California)!

A/N: When I heard about Cali's gay marriage approval, I danced.

...Guess I'm moving to California! Haha. Ok, I'm way off track now.

I love your cupcakes.

hehe i'm sure everyone is sick to death of rainbow cupcakes, but I just had to post these.
The Capitol CupCakeCamp was held this past Sunday and since its a fundraiser event benefiting a women's charity, my friends and I thought we'd take another crack at the rainbow cupcakes and enter in the contest. I heavily modified all the recipes (the bees are my favorite improvement with their pretty wings). Sadly, our cupcakes didn't place, but they turned out 10 times better than my first attempt and I'm very proud of them Cheesy

Mom suggested that maybe we didn't place because the judges were scared to eat them since they're so bright, they're almost toxic looking Wink
Even if we didn't win, the charity sure did - 3400 cupcakes, 200 bakers, 400 tasters, and $2000 raised Cheesy
