This is my final project from my Costume one class. It's a Victorian Bustle dress, Simplicity 5457, with small modifications to fit better. All in all it took me about a month of afternoons, and more money than I'd like to admit. The main part of the dress is a brown cotton brocade from an upholstery shop, and the bustle is curtain material from the upholstery section of a very large fabric store. I fell in love with the pattern when I saw it in one of our costume shop's ancient big 3 pattern books. I ended up having to buy it off the eBay's.

That bustle what a bother, the fabric was a one way and i ended up cutting it differently than the pattern wanted me to, the bustle is even between the lengths the pattern gives. really though, other than buying the fabric that part was easy.

isn't that knife pleating beautiful?

Ignore my silly expression, but look at that 3 layer bodice. Lining, flat lined on trigger and the top layer of brocade. it's also lightly boned with rigiline. Separating zipper in the back, hooks and eyes on the collar. I really lucked out with the dickey though, that was extra from a classmate's project. For some reason it didn't hit me until I was sewing that I didn't have material for it.

All in all I'm beyond proud of it. Smiley Comments and Crits welcomed!

Gorgeous!  The fabric is perfect and it looks amazing on the model (you?).  I really love the bustle material - it is just the right amount of contrast with the dark brown and cream of the dress. Excellent!

That is beautiful. The colors are great on you. Wish I had Costume class in school, only the basic "home studies" and I didn't take any of it.  And only class one you said? How many classes are there...?

Gotta love this =) great work, I kind of doubt I'd be able to manage something like this myself at all! Soooo impressed!

(And I realise I have the very exact same fabric at home for an obi as the one you used for the puffy waist and back-part. The beige flowery fabric I mean. Really made me laugh cause I was so surprised =) )

I love it so much.
Seriously. I'd want to wear it around all the time. Like to the supermarket and everything.
