i got one of those woodburning/soldering iron things for mother's day, so i decided to try it out yesterday by making my kids name plates. i think they turned out alright, they could be better. but, hey! it was my first time. i i outlined everything with the woodburning tool and filled in everything but the letters with paint. it was fun. i can't wait to try to solder something together.

thanks for looking Smiley

Great first try....fantastic first try.  I love the "irony" of you doing something for your kids with your Mother's day gift. Sorry, I'm just a sop for stuff like that.  I love it. IMHO, I don't think it could be better.  A perfect project ...done!!

yeah, i'm notorious for that. i get craft supplies for myself, and i make stuff for my kids or other people. lol... my husband actually gave me a gift card for mother's day, and the woodburning tool is what i bought with it. he had to DEMAND that i bought something for myself with it because i'm one of those people that hates to spend money on myself. so, maybe i will make something for myself on the next go-round!

I hear ya'.  I know exactly what you mean.  In my eyes, that's what craftin' is all about and one of the reasons I love this place so much.  Just tryin' to spread the love a little.
Can't wait to see what you are up to next. Wink

Beautiful name plates.  Well done.

I would love to own some of those tree decorations - little wood burned hearts threaded with ribbon.... I don't suppose you make anything like that do you?

never tried it before, but i doubt it would be too hard. that's actually a pretty good idea. maybe next time i hit hobby lobby i will get some of the small wood pre-cuts and try making some ornaments. that's a good suggestion that i totally hadn't thought of! hearts with a nice lacy pattern would be really pretty. and now i can make some family ornaments without having to pay for overpriced engraving on silver...

I'm a bit of a romantic, and would treasure a gift like that at xmas.  And I would consider them to be a bit of a future family heirloom too!  I have been given a few very old christmas tree decorations from my great grandmother and I really REALLY love them.   Smiley

They would be lovely with the name of each family member engraved on the back of each one too, so the tree becomes a family one at christmas Smiley  (See, I am totally slushy, lolololol )   I WOULD buy these if they were on sale near me!

i am thinking about opening an Etsy store sometime soon, so maybe if i get around to making something like that i could let you know. or maybe once i'm eligible for a swap (not sure how the personal swap works...) we could work something out Smiley
