I don't know the name for it but I want to make one of those pillows that has arms on it so you can sit up in bed. My boyfriend is having reconstructive surgery on his ankle in a little over a week and he has to stay off his feet (other than bathroom breaks, in which I will become a crutch) for at least 2 weeks Cry. Even after that he'll be confinded to bed/couch for a while. I think it would be nice to have for him so he can play video games and read in bed.

Does anyone know of a pattern I can whip up for it? Or is this something that is better bought? Maybe I should just buy a pattern? I've made the basic pillows before free hand but this is different.

Thank you for reading and any help would be appreciated!

It might be easier to buy a plain one and then decorate it. My mom used to call these "husbands". She always insisted that I have one when I was in college. I loved it!

I'm glad to hear that someone else calls them "husbands" too.  My roommate used to have one and once a guy friend of ours came over and said "hey, can you hand me that husband" and I had never heard the term before and for some reason found this hilarious.  Anyhows, I think it would be fairly easy to make, I imagine the hardest part would be stuffing it firm enough to provide the kind of support he'll want.  That being said, I have seen these at places like Wal-Mart and Big Lots for around 14.99.  Though I am never one to discourage craftiness, when you factor in the cost of fabric and supplies, time and energy etc., you may be better off just purchasing one.  I hope this was of some help, though it is mostly ramblings....
