ahahaha!
ive got a design at last!
grey cotton, with this amazing cream crocheted lace for the boooobies Tongue
quite plain, apart from the bust.
and then worn with pearls (the only jewellery i ever wear), and a clutch and then amazing shoes.
eeee.
excitement.

and I'm making my best friend's, bought the fabric today. Blue floral print, with navy tulle underneath and peeking out of the top. Strapless. And then a pale blue ribbon sash. Photos of fabric to come, it's so so gorgeous.

How's everyone else doing?

Well, my senior prom is some time this spring- date yet unanounced.
Despite the fact that I have no sewing machine, I'm making my own. Grin
Here's my sketch

My plan is to buy an old, cheap dress from either ebay or a thrift store, rip out the bodice, attach it to a modified and hand knit Askew from Knitty. Then I'll buy the "fairy pointe" skirt from goodgoth.com and sew the top and bottom together by hand and then dye it whatever color I decide.
I'm also knitting and felting my shoes.

Okay... more than a month after the event... I finally present you with my pictures!
Sorry if they are massive.

The dress:

Me wearing the dress:

My jewellery:

(The necklace is slightly messy looking in that photo though Sad)

The bag:

(Made up as I went along....)

I was really happy with it considering I started by teaching myself how to use the sewing machine, about a month before the formal.

I made the dress, bag, wrap and jewellery; drew the line at the shoes though!

Today I started working on another dress for another formal, so hopefully pics of that will follow Smiley

hey everyone. i just got invited to my old schools prom. its in approx. two months... i cant decide if i want to make my own dress or just get a nasty 80s get-up from the thrift store. if i were to sew it, i wouldnt know what patters to use.. simplicity, mccalls, etc are really my style i guess i could say. does anyone have any suggestions for patterns that are a little more alternative style (i really feel lame saying that). more urban outfitters, less j. crew???

Okay, so, I have 3 formals (the Kiwi equivalent of proms) this year. And to at least one, I plan on wearing a dress similar to this one:

Isn't it wonderful?! But yes, I'm looking for a similar pattern, or a pattern with a similar bodice shape. I'm going to et rid of the pintucks, so it should be easy enough? Any help would be very much appreciated!
