So, thanks to the wonderful, and now Craftster famous, "Mermaid Tam," I decided to knit up one of my own, and keeping with the aquatic theme, I called it my Starfish Hat (plus the back looks like a starfish ^.^). Directly after finishing it I started casting on my second version of different colors, which I've decided to call my Jellyfish Hat. I love love love them both dearly!
The Starfish:
And the Jellyfish:

I decreased differently on the Jellyfish so it wouldn't make that star, which at first I didn't like, but now I love. I also only used two colors of gray and pink simplysoft for the Starfish, but I used some scrap brown and simplysoft shadow yarn for the Jellyfish, I love the effect the shadow yarn had.

HOPE YOU LIKE!

I love them both, gorgeous colour choices! How did you do the decreases on the Jellyfish? I can't decide if I like that or the star-shape more! x

On the Starfish I decreased every 24 stitches or so (?? I can't remember exactly, but it was the number of all the stitches divided by 7 if that helps, hehe) and then I knit 2 together then slip, slip knit; this for some reason raised those decreases and that's why it looked like that.

For the Jellyfish, when I got up to my tenth contrasting brick row, I counted off and decreased every 12 stitches (placing a stitch marker helps), then every 11 stitches, 10 stitches, 9... so on and so forth. If you don't like counting, just decrease before the stitch marker every time. When you get to seven or 8 stitches left, cut the string and pull it tightly through the remaining stitches and voila, you're done.

IF you want the color to go up to the end (like in the Jellyfish- but NOT the Starfish) you have to keep going with the color pattern, but it usually doesn't work, if you want to continue slipping the stitch you're supposed to. It's weird, but since it's at the top, it won't make much of a difference. It basically just made the top last 12 rows- 2 MC rows, 2 CC rows half the time. I didn't think it looked bad though.

HOPE THIS HELPS!  Cheesy
