Summer shirt for little girls

This is my first post of something I've done, so please be kind! I didn't do this from a pattern, have been seeing a lot of cute pictures of shirts for girls around, so just kinda winged it, but it was really easy to do!

I made it a bit too small for her though, she absolutely hates wearing it for that reason.. lol.  

Going to try another one in white/pink/purple maybe, and hopefully I make it big enough this time!

Oh my gosh that is so pretty! Please share how you did it even though you did make it up as you went. My two youngest god daughter's would love this top. Your little model is adorable.

It really was soo easy to make. 

Basically I just made a chain long enough to fit around her chest, with a little breathing room.. (thats where i probably messed up, as SC isn't as stretchy as I thought it would be.. lol.)  Join it, and just sc around and make a tube as long as you want it in sc's.  Would probably be stretchier and lighter in half doubles or something. 

Then, when I got to the end of the "tube" I just did a (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in every other stitch, then join and keep doing that around, working each row in the ch2 spaces.  Putting the shells so close together is what kinda makes it flare out and ripple a bit when it gets longer.

Then, just change colors on the last 3 rows, surface crochet the stripes on, attach whatever flower you want, and braid up some straps, and voila, thats it!

I started making one where i just made a rectangle to fit around her, instead of the tube, and used ribbon as sort of a corset closure, so its adjustable and more comfy, so that would probably work too.

Oh, that is lovely! I must make a dozen right now  What yarn did you use - and how washable is it? My lo is only 2.5yo so really I need to use something I can wash ice cream stains out of...
