I found a tute on ETSY for fusing plastic bags together and since I had a whole load knocking round the flat (+ an iron) I decided to give it a go. Fuse enough plastic bags together and the fabric is both water-proof and nigh on indestructable, although both these bags I lined with denim from some old jeans because I find it makes it a bit more flexible.

the carrier bags I made this with were nice bright colours but lacked any interesting logo's so I made the flowers out of the handles I'd cut off

This ones a bit more obviously made of recycled bags since the store logos are all still on show, I made it for a UNICEF charity auction and it was so hard to part with! Smiley

WOW i love this technique and these are some of my favorites.  a bit afraid to try it myself (the klutz factor), but probably will one day.

PS: to those who try this, please iron outside if possible (fumes)...

Those are fantastic!  I tried fusing some Wal-Mart bags and didn't do a very good job of it.  I guess I need to try again, because I love these!!

It works best if you use the really flimsy carrier bags (i don't know what wal-mart ones are like i'm afraid!) but even with the thicker ones you can do it with a bit of patience. whenever i've done it there's always been a point where i was like - hang on this isn't working right but if you carry on it comes together! (oh and obviously beware of the fumes as nataluna said but to be honest i've never got more than the slightest whiff of melting plastic doing this)  Smiley
