I want to knit a mini-umbrella for a project, and I was wondering what an umbrella panel looked like when it's flat...I know it's a triangular shaped thing, but does it have straighter edges or more curved?

From memory, the two longer edges are pretty straight, but the bottom is curved.

You could buy an umbrella from an op-shop (Erm, thrift store) and chop it up.
