Last week I read vegbee's tutorial for patchwork skirts.  I was immediately smitten.  I just had to try it.  I decided I would start one Friday night for my 4 year old.  I showed my mom the picture & told her I wished I had a serger.  She got out her old one for me to use.  I thought it was broken, I just knew she didn't use it any longer.   I am in love!  I stayed up until I had it finished at about 1:30am.  I think I have about 4 hours in it.  I used clear elastic to gather the layers.  Sunday I made one for my 10 year old.  They each have 158 squares.  The layers sewn end to end would be 43 ft 11 inches.   I was looking at my final pink layer Friday night (early Sat morning) wondering if I was on crack to think that this 16 foot long layer would possibly look normal when finished.  But amazingly it does.  I am obsessed!  I love them so much.  Thanks for looking & I hope you enjoy them.  They are made totally out of scraps.  I chose this order because those are the colors I had the most of.

I still have a lot of clipping string to do

I just thought this one was cute.

I recommend this tute to anyone with girls to sew for.  THANK YOU VEGBEE!!!  On the serger it wasn't that bad at all.  I might feel differently if I'd had to use my regular Janome.

The skirts turned out great and it looks like your daughters really love them! If I see anymore of these, I'm probably going to be sucked in too. haha

So beautiful. I was sucked in...I made one for myself! I'm super crazy. But I did have a serger, so I'm not too crazy. Here's mine. http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=243959.msg2695274#msg2695274

I saw yours earlier today.  I guess we had the same kind of weekend!  I loved the colors you used.  I am contemplating making one for myself, I just can't decide what colors to use.  I am thinking about black, white & red.

I was surprised that my 10 yo wanted one.  At least in these colors.  I thought she would want it blue & green, but she & her best friend sawe little sisters & loved it.  She normally hates pink & dresses.
