A quick google search says that Caster Sugar is is a very fine sugar in Britain. We call it "Superfine" sugar here in the USA.

Self-Rising Flour can be found sitting beside your All Purpose Flour at the grocery store. It includes your baking soda and salt with your flour.

Be careful with your food coloring. I added to much and my cupcakes looked awesome but tasted gross.
Self-rising flour is equivalent to all-purpose plus salt and baking POWDER, not soda.  Here's a formula: http://www.cdkitchen.com/features/tip/528/Self-Rising-Flour-Substitute

Wow......these are fabulous maybe I will give them a try next for scouting.

I like the Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker.......easier to use with the boys.

I'm on a cupcake making binge (vegan cupcakes!)
i had to try making them more colorful just for kicks, so here is batch number one, with orange, blue green and purple layers:

They were a hit at work, but certainly not as vibrant as the first post on this thread. WOW

Oooh those look delish, any chance you'll share the recipe?  I have a good friend who's got an intolerance, and I'm always looking for things to make him!
