If I was a bed, I would stay unmade.

Made some for my mom's birthday and let me tell you, they were a HIT!  My three little boys were SO excited and everyone loved them!  Thanks so much for posting this!!!
I used a white cake mix and vanilla frosting and TONS of food coloring (I wanted the colors really bright!)  They took forever to do just because I'm so anal...

I loved how the paper was all rainbow-y too!

This one was a little heavy on green but I tried to keep them all about even!

Thanks!  Yes I just used a white Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker cake mix.  The key with those is that you only use egg white (it says that on the box) so there's no yellowing at all.
I divided the batter between six bowls and used a big ice cream scoop to put 3 scoops of batter into each bowl, then whatever was left I divided it semi-evenly (this was easier than trying to measure it all out).  Then I colored the batter (using lots of dye) and used a small spoon to pour purple in the bottom of each, smooth it out to touch the sides, then the same for blue and so on.  Like I said, took forever!  But so cute!

We made some today(me & the kids) and it makes a nice rainy day project!  Everyone loved them.  We used star tins from the dollar tree and frosting coloring from the wedding section at walmart.  The frosting is crappy, I know, the green is too dark and I did it really fast but the kids were getting anxious...and so was I!

What kind of food coloring did you use?  I can not get my colors to be that vibrant at all.  If I use extra coloring, the colors get really dull and yucky.  How do you do it?

I got the little jars from walmart in the wedding/cake section.  They are a dollar something for each color but they work so well and last a long time so I think they're worth it.
