This is a belated birthday cake I made for a friend of mine. She loves Darth Maul. It's my first time making/using fondant and my first time making a cake from scratch!

Close up of the "handle":

I got the recipe for the cake here:http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/One-Bowl-Chocolate-Cake-III/Detail.aspx It's made using a 9"x13" pan. I simply cut it lengthwise.

Next came the frosting:http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Special-Buttercream-Frosting/Detail.aspx

My wonderful husband helped a lot with fondant. He rolled everything out, helped with the coloring, and kept me from getting discouraged when thing weren't going just right.  Grin

To make the fondant I used this wonderful tutorial by riverwatson: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=238211.0

My friend was so excited to try the cake that we forgot the candles! It was super yummy. We were all on a sugar high for the rest of the night.

The next best thing to getting Darth Maul himself for your birthday! Wink Looks great - clever idea!

But we have flamethrowers. And what this indicates to me, it means that at some point, some person said to himself, "Gee, I sure would like to set those people on fire over there. But I'm way too far away to get the job done. If only I had something that would throw flame on them."

It tasted really good. I'm glad that Jenn didn't get any pictures of me cause I was a little nutty after the sugar high.

This cake is great!  The red looks really good!!  I made a huge mess the last time I tried red because for some reason marshmallow fondant does not like red icing jell.  I realized that regular red food coloring works and doesn't make the fondant "sticky" and now everything works out great when I need red.  I have to make a cake for my son's friend that will be quite similar to this one.  Thanks for the inspiration!!
