Okay so this is kind of a combo of baking, sculpture, and painting:

For my rat-obsessed roomate's 21st b-day I made her this cake, of her 2 beloved pet rats Ula Mata (Hawaiian for Red Eye) and Deluxe "feasting" upon her birthday cake.

(there's Ula checking out the cake with her on it!)

First, I made a regular box cake. Then I ripped chunks of it out to look like it had been partially eaten.

Then, I covered the remainder of the cake in icing and decorated it all boring-like. I pinched the icing at the edges to look bitten.

I made the rats out of brownies sculpted in the shape of rats. Then I covered them with rolled fondant (a kind of icing) and painted them with icing color paste.

Finally, as a last touch, I made little rat turds out of brownies. She LOVED it. It's my first real decorated cake. What do you think?!

That is the finest cake I've ever laid my eyes on. And that's a few, not to mention those I've actually laid my face on! Cheesy
Wow! I would never be able to cut it, it's too pretty! Hmm, that really is a good idea, diet wise - make work-of-art cakes. <taking notes>

You rock girl!! So much even, that you made me hit the "This Rocks" button in an trance-like reflex-y kinda mode (and it's my first time too) Cheesy

Rock on!

I agree, it's absolutely fabulous! And the finest cake I've ever seen also. I spotted the turds and was LMBO. What an ingenious and creative idea!! Just delightful!  Grin

I know you could sell them on the net, if you ever wanted to! I don't go for "bought" cakes, but this one I would buy. It's so different from the usual decorated cake. I think most of them are crap.
