Craft Challenge #28 - In The Hot Seat - Due June 1 - June 5 2008

Check out the blog about this challenge:

Thanks to Susan Beal and all of our wonderful entries this round!
6/6/08 - Update! - Time to cast your vote! Scroll up to the top of this thread to see the poll.
6/1/08 - Update! Time to enter your projects! The folder for entries is here:

Everyone has room for just one more chair, right?! This challenge is to take an old chair -- the uglier the better -- and remake it into something beautiful! Thrift stores often have chairs ripe for the picking. Or keep your eyes open for something someone is getting rid of on trash night. Or perhaps you already have an old chair kicking around that really needs a remake.
Be sure to snap a picture of the chair before you remade it and post that too!
Here some of my favorite chair remakes on Craftster for a little inspiration:
"side-of-the-road" chair turned glam!!! (step by step pics)
,
My new & improved, oh so fuzzy computer chair
,
$4.99 thrifted chair remake
,
Pimp My High Chair
,
Office Chair upholstored with bedskirt
,
The lonely little chair finds kitty friends
,
Take two on a kitchen stool/chair
,
re-upholstered video game chair!
,
Armchair repainted and upholstered in Amy Butler
,
Decoupaged old chair
,
Goodwill Blah Turned to Buzz Lightyear Hazah! Three Chair Recovering
.
Rules:
Post your craft during the period of June 1 - June 5 2008.
No sooner. No later.
On June 1 there will be a special folder created for entries.
Voting will happen from June 6 - June 12 2008.
Each participant can enter
ONE
project. (Although your entry can have multiple components to it.)
Originality:
It's probably impossible to know whether your project is 100% original and has never been posted on Craftster or made by anyone else in the past. But if your project was definitely
inspired
by something you've seen before, then just give credit to that project.
Prizes:
At the end, I'll set up a poll right here and the first place winner will get...
(1) their project in the Featured Projects area
(2) their project in the
Craftster Blog
And this prize (winner can receive prize in U.S. or non-U.S.):
A copy of the beautiful new book by Susan Beal called
Bead Simple
!
(I was so flattered to be asked to contribute a project to this book! Thank you Susan!
)
Amazon.com's description:
Most beading books include a mix of patterns but call for very specific beads and materials. So if crafters don't like the beads used in the projects, or don't have them in hand, they won't enjoy the projects, no matter how beautiful they are. But Susan Beal has untangled this knotty problem. Bead Simple is the first work of its kind that offers stunning jewelry patterns that can be completely customized with a variety of beads and stringing materials. Based on simple, yet effective beading techniques, this strikingly illustrated pattern guide includes 50 glittering designs, each featuring two bold variations for a total of 150 projects that can easily be achieved with different materials or tweaks. With hot guest designers, including DIY Network's Jennifer Perkins and Megan Nicolay, author of the bestselling Generation T, here is the one book that finally offers jewelers the versatility to let their unique personalities shine through.

Since I'm currently living with my in-laws I don't have room for just one more chair... But I was thinking of doing something with my car seats. Does that count?

Awesome. I was gifted two dining room chairs from the 70's for my apartment which 100% do NOT match my table. Iw as planning on re-doing them at some point.
Hopefully I can find the time between party planning and swap creating to finish them and enter the challenge.

Hmmm, I have a high chair that I got for free that has no cover, and I was considering getting rid of it or giving it away. Perhaps this was just the inspiration I needed to do something good with it!
*Runs off to think of ways to coolify the high chair*
