I wanted a light fixture for my daughter's room, (the house we moved into didn't have one.) But all the ones in the stores were either too expensive or too trade mark-y. I have just started to do stained glass and thought about making one out of glass but wasn't sure how to go about it without it getting too heavy. So, I brain stormed and decided to use shrink art! I drew the silhouettes onto the plastic and then used acrylic paint on the back. Popped them into the oven and Voila! I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. Putting them onto a shade was tough though. I was able to solder the "x" onto a ring but had enormous trouble soldering the brace peices on. I even bought another "x" and cut it up but it still wouldn't work!? I then gave it to my wonderful husband to take to work to tack weld. Crazy! I like it, what do you think?Finished product up close with the light onThe metal framework that gave me such a headacheAll the pretty little piecesIn perspective I think she likes it!

Love this too! Genius!!!
Each image is so sweet.

Technical question...what type of Shrinky Dink did you use? And you put like the marker on the front, acrylic on the back? The effect is so beautiful! And great husband for his tack welding abilities!! Smiley

Thank you! This was just the original shrinky dink. And I used Sharpie in the front and acrylic on the back. I love that stuff!

That is beautiful!

I probably won't use the same method but this has given me a wonderful idea for some art pieces around my window filled apartment.

The images are absolutely awe inspiring.

Is there anything shrink plastic/shrinky dinks can't do! This is a fantastic idea, and the colors are amazing. I never thought to use acrylics, wonderful!

Fabulous!  I think this would be even prettier (if that's possible!) as a table lamp...just so the artwork could be admired close up!  Really beautiful!
