I didn't even know that there was a thread about this topic, but I was totally thinking the same thing.  I just got a bunch of new books, and I wish that I had some "craftster" input before I bought some of them.  Sad  Reviews on Amazon are fine, but I would much prefer reviews from people who have similiar opinions to mine (fun & funky, not a grandmotherly point of view).  I can't wait to see how this will shape up! I love this idea. Like if there was book review section that would be so awesome. I usually just randomly check books out from the libarary and most times they aren't that great. Darn that library. I would love to have people's insight into what craft books rawk their socks off.

I recently bought two books on beginners quilting from amazon, they both had good ratings and reviews, when they arrived one was wonderful and helpful and inspiring the other was a real let down, incredibly basic tips that you could pick up in half an hour of skimming the craftster quilting forums, with really boring designs.

My idea is on each subject forum (toys, sewing, quilting, etc) to have a board where we can post any resources we've found useful and inspiring, be it a blog, book or website giving a review stating in which way it it useful to us. I know when trying out a new tecnique or skill we all like advise on where to look for ideas and help.

I live in rural ireland and so dont have access to big bookshops, also in ireland craft is not nearly as big as it is in the US, so I tend to buy craft books via amazon, the problem is of course that I only have the reveiws on amazon to go by,

Is there a board/place on craftster where I can see craft books reviewed?

personal swaps...yes please

Great idea.  When I think of it, I think it's strange that we don't have it.  I've seen a few posts all through Craftster but not a specific place for craft book reviews.

there isnt..but I know I suggested it a few months ago and I think there was a suggestion of putting a thread about it in the section that fits it..such as sewing books in sewing..and ask for recommendations or ask for a review for a specific book..

but I love it since I love books..internet is a good resource too but I love books..

I almost feel like a separate general board would be good, because some books (like Anticraft, Super Crafty, etc.) have many crafts!

I don't think another board is necessary.  Each review can be posted on the appropriate/particular craft board and then tagged with "book review."

Then, if you go to the tag cloud (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?action=tags), you can click Book Review (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?action=tags;sa=showtopics;tag=book_review) and see a list of all book reviews.

Tag, tag, tag! Smiley

I remember, when first exploring the boards, that it was one the things I looked for and couldn't find. If a new board is not an option, maybe a pinned subject on top of each section?
