I originally posted this in the "reconstructed" section, but I now think that might be wrong, so here it is:

Ok, this is my first attempt at creating something from scratch... No pattern, I just went with the flow.  A friend showed me how to set up the thread and I finally put my grandmother's sewing machine to use. I'm tooootally addicted :-P

This was made from two upholstery swatches/samples that had pre-made metal loops in them, as well as some vintage fabric I bought at an estate sale a million years ago.  The brown ribbon is actually vintage bias tape, also from estate sale (whatever the hell that is).

I hope you like it!!! Smiley

UPDATE: I just made another last night, still have to do the strap...

My son has been watching me make these and finally he decided he wanted one for himself - so I ended up making this today using the same type of upholstery samples and some old flannel fabric I had from years ago (handles are stolen from a paper giftbag and reappropriated):

But we concured it still turned out kinda girlie, so I'm gonna try to make one in more of a messanger style...  same gator fabric, tho Wink

More pics can be viewed here!:

Cheers, all, and thanx for looking! Smiley

Ooooh, I likes that a lot.  Good job, it's very cute.  And I was about to ask how you added the big metal grommits until I went back and reread your post.  Quite fortuitous then!

I love them.  I want the pink one for my very own.  I might have to hope for some good luck garage sale-ing this year!

I am walking 12 hours straight for my local Relay For Life event.  [a href="http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLFY11MW?px=16690269&pg=personal&fr_id=30095"]Please support me![/a href] I'm only 40% to my goal! =0(
