My boyfriend and I made these coasters as a birthday gift for his brother. We'll be giving them to the brother for his birthday on Saturday. Siince I know there's no way he'll be surfing around Craftster (not his thing) I figured I was safe posting them here before the party. We're giving him a DVD boxed set of MST3K too, so it's kind of a theme present.

I used the MST3K knitting chart that was created by Sara at goingcrafty (http://goingcrafty.com/?p=3) for the basic design and then made them out of Perler Beads. We put cork on the back to make them waterproof.

(Now that they're done they kind of remind me of those ipod ads where silouhettes of people dance around in front of coloured backgrounds.)

What do you think, sirs?

We gave the coasters on Saturday and they were a hit. The recipient actually opened them upside down, with the Crow coaster on top, so he was a little confused as to what they were. He knew they were coasters, but couldn't figure out what the pic was. Finally we told him the thick black part goes on bottom and he turned them all around the right way. Then he could immediately tell what they were and was very pleased.

He hasn't seen any MST3K in a while and he started moving them around like puzzle pieces trying to get the three characters sitting in the right order. It took him a long time to get the order right. We kept laughing because his other gift was a MST3K boxed set and he hadn't opened it yet. If he'd just stopped playing with the coasters for a few minutes and opened it he could have seen from the box what order the characters should sit in.

We had a good laugh over it and the gift was appreciated, so it was definately worth the time it took to make them.
