Ok as the title suggests, this is pretty much the first thing I've ever made using crochet. I've been a knitter for years but never had the knack for the hooking side of things!

Well a little while ago I decided to try once again to teach myself. I bought a how-to book and off I went. I started this when I worked in a call center a year ago and then after quitting I sort of forgot about it. Last week I dug it out of my stash and finished it off.

It was made from very thin fluffy yarn that I'm fairly sure was part mohair. Unfortunately I'll never know for sure because the labels disappeared along with half the balls when I moved house.

Ok for a first try?

(Ignore my yummy ikea candles and oil burner!)

I love it!  I adore that shade of blue, and it looks very cozy.

I've yet to do anything with squares, although I should.  They're great take-along projects.

DRivero- Thank you! The pale baby blue is me favorite colour unfortunately at the moment we have a sea green feature wall so it doesn't look great there but when I buy a house everything will be pretty and blue  Grin

Melyssa_marie- Thanks, luckily for me and my hard work the candles are in little pots and can't drip anywhere!

Thanks for looking guys!

This is so nice, and absolutely fanTASTIC for a first project! My first project was a chain. A massive chain through every room of the house. That's how the women in my family learned, at seven years old or so, you were handed a hook, a ball of yarn, and told to make a chain. Then, I think I made a scarf, but it had the general silhouette of a DNA strand (wide, then narrow, then wide, then narrow, you get the picture) because I refused to accept that counting stitches was necessary. This first project knocks my socks off!

Great work, keep it up!!

as soon as i saw that, it reminded me of my baby blanket, which my senile ol' grandma made for me in the womb. it was the exact same colors.

... can i cuddle with your table-cover?

FarahAbood- Thank you so much for your compliment! Coming from someone as great at crochet as you that really makes me smile!

RepentantAngel- A chain? That sounds like a good place to start! I sort of jumped in without knowing everything I should so a lot of my squares aren't really... well square. Your first scarf sounds like my first knitting experience! I was about 3 years old and I was sat down on at my Grandma's kitchen table and shown how to do it. We were on holidays and we left before she showed me how to join new yarn so when I finished 2 seperate pieces I tied them together with a shoelace  Cheesy

VintageEnthusiast- Aww thanks Cheesy I'm sure you're an awesome crochet-er now!

bassistcoolidge- When I read your response I managed to literally spit juice all over myself from laughing! And to answer your question or course you can cuddle my blanket, how could I deny a fellow craftster the opportunity to re-connect with their senile ol' grandma?  Grin

ZellaBella- It feels wonderful thank you!
