my tomato swallowed my most favorite needle.  I had to cut it open it made a huge mess. Thanks for the link to the other one...

The older a tomato is, the more likely it will swallow your needles.  My stepmom's tomato swallows them all the time (it's probably older than I am).  My brand spanky one has never given me a problem, though, and it's housed many.  My suggestion:  Cut open the old one (over a garbage bag) and get a new one.

Needle books are awesome and so cheap to make!  My Joann Fabric store sells pieces of felt for 20 cents a piece!  I use a needle book and just made one for my friend.

Someone a while back gave me one of those needle books. It's made out of felt and I would keep my needles in there. Now I have no idea where it is. Currently I'm using one of the fliptop containers marketed for beads (kinda looks like a tic-tac container)

When I used to work in the costume shops, we would squeeze really full dresses/costumes for pins. It worked really well and I don't remember poking myself too badly. (Didn't want pins in it when the actors wore them)

you should post a picture of your needlebook you made for your friend.

I believe they are taking about a simple felt needlebook that is made with squares about 4", punch a couple of holes on one side and tie together with a ribbon. You can have a page for each different type of needle or size of needle you decide.

Here's several examples of needlebooks. As you can see, they're super simple to make.
