I am thinking of making a DIY diz, but I have never seen "a reel one". How big are the holes ? I heard something about 3 mm... Do you think using one of these stone "donuts" they sell as pendants would do it or would the hole be too large ? Thanks for your ideas.

Like many other things in the fiber world ... it depends.

I currently use spice tops with holes of various sizes.

Deb Menz (Color in Spinning) recommends using a diz with an oval opening of 1/2" wide and 1/4" tall for initial blending, then dropping to a smaller round opening (.06 to .18 inch diameter) for final step.

Having a range of sizes is wonderful - the larger holes produce a more bold blending of colors whereas a smaller hole gives a more subtle blending of colors.

If you're not blending colors, a hole that will give the diameter of roving you are looking for is the one you want!

Thanks Cindy ! This enlarges my horizont ! LOL ! I was just thinking about making roving after combing the fiber, but it's even better if you can make different color blendings...
